Kuma Publishers Project
Objective:
Choose a small company (less than 5 locations) and create promotional assets based on current marketing strategy research.
Description:
Based on research on the company’s current marketing and promotional assets, we had to create new assets that they could use to branch out and draw in new customers. Kuma Publishers is a small publishing company that focuses on the English licensing and publication of BL manga. They had no cohesive presence on Instagram, lacked user-friendly navigation on their website, and also had no way to directly purchase titles on their website. In addition to my deliverables I also manually edited and translated each of the new book covers.
Website Tweaks
Originally the Kuma website had no upper navigation bar, making it a little bit challenging to navigate upon first visiting the site. There was also no option to buy directly from the publisher, unlike their competitors, and often times each title would have several links to outside purchasing options.
Instagram Reel
Along with creating several Instagram posts and mocking up their profile, I also did a stop-motion reel. This reel features their current physical titles along with an animation of their current logo. In the background of the video, an instrumental of the song “Love Me Back” by fromis_9 can be heard.

In addition to creating all of the previous assets, I also got the chance to try my hand at typesetting for all of the manga covers that I used for this project. For each one I had to manually edit out the original Japanese characters using ProCreate, then format the new translated titles onto the edited covers.
